IPv6 support for Regional Edge with September 2026 release
Summary
Starting with the September 2026 release, IPv6 is available on Regional Edges (RE) as a limited availability (LA) feature for load balancer advertisement. To access IPv6 on REs, contact your account team to enable it for your tenant. For more information, see F5 Distributed Cloud IPv6 on Regional Edges.
IPv6 on regional edges (limited availability)
Note:
- IPv6 on Regional Edges (RE) is a limited availability (LA) feature. Contact your account team to request access.
- IPv6 on Customer Edges (CE) was previously available as an early access (EA) pilot. CE IPv6 is not currently available or supported.
F5 Distributed Cloud supports advertising load balancers on IPv6-only or dual-stack (IPv4 and IPv6) on Regional Edges. You can serve both IPv6-native clients and legacy IPv4 clients from a single load balancer configuration, with no changes to your origin pool or routing rules.
Prerequisites
- The IPv6 add-on must be enabled for your tenant. If the add-on isn't enabled for your tenant, contact your account team to request activation.
- You must have specified public IPs (IPv6 or dual-stack) added to your tenant. If you need additional public IP objects, contact F5 support.
New advertisement policies
| Option | Address families served | Requires |
|---|---|---|
| Internet | IPv4 only | Default - available to all tenants |
| Internet (Specified IPv4) | IPv4 only | Public IP object with an IPv4 address |
| Internet (Specified IPv6) | IPv6 only | Public IP object with an IPv6 address |
| Internet (Specified Dualstack) | IPv4 and IPv6 | Public IP object with both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses |
Public IP object changes
A single public IP object can now carry:
- An IPv4 address only
- An IPv6 address only
- Both (dual-stack)
You can request additional dedicated public IPs (IPv4 or IPv6) from F5 support or your account team.
